NAVY GUEST BATH IDEAS

by Regina 21 Comments

This project got completed literally the last day of the year. The guest bath reveal is ready! I wrote about this early in 2021 but other projects seemed to take priority.

THE GUEST ROOM REVEAL

We thought finally it was time to get the vanity out of the guest room and the tub out of the office. I have to say that once it got started it didn’t take long to finish.

A LONG TIME COMING

Have I mentioned like a million times how lucky I am to have such a handy guy around? There is nothing he cannot fix or do. In my post last year “Can This Bathroom Be Saved” I shared a mood board of ideas for this space. I loved the vanity but didn’t want everything gold. So I had picked out handles for the vanity that were chrome and gold and they have not arrived but that will tie together the different finishes.

It may be different but I’m good with it. I ordered the lights from Pottery Barn and mirror was from West Elm. The vanity is from Wayfair, I liked that it looked more like a dresser.

I am so happy to have this fresh space for our family, the dog walker and of course for me to soak.

THE MIRROR AND LIGHTS, LIGHTS FROM POTTERY BARN AND MIRROR FROM WEST ELM

BEFORE THE REVEAL

Before it was such a dingy space, the tile that was randomly placed in the middle of the walls was falling down. The vanity top was white, the toilet was white but the seat was cream and the tub surround was cream.

THE BEFORE PICTURES

Above you can see the tile randomly placed on the wall, parts of it falling off the wall. The vanity was small. I like a vanity with drawers, I find them much for functional for me. Below is a picture of the tub surround – yuck, not my favorite.

YUCKY TUB SURROUND

We selected a sleek deep tub from Home Depot. As one who enjoys my baths and soaks and this was a perfect size. I can fill it up so high, definitely not a water saver.

THE SLEEK TUB, AND THAT BEAUTIFUL WHITE TILE AND NICHE
HANDHELD SHOWER FOR THE DOG BATHS

Initially I had selected the penny tile for the niche and had picked out a dark grey glass subway tile for the accent row. Carmine suggested using the floor tile for the niche and I loved that idea so we used the penny tile for the accent row in the tub.

LOVED THE IDEA OF THE FLOOR AS THE BACKGROUND OF THE NICHE, THE MARBLE BOTTOM WAS TO BE THE BACKSPLASH OF THE VANITY BUT CARMINE USED IT FOR THIS. GREAT IDEA RIGHT?

We tiled more all the way to the ceiling around the tub and over halfway up the other walls. This makes the space feel so clean and big when it’s actually pretty small.

The large subway tile, floor tile and penny tile are all from Floor Decor and More. A great one stop shop for all things tile and flooring.

BEHIND THE SCENES BEFORE THE REVEAL

The prep consisted of removing the old tub, it was too large to get down the steps or actually out of the bathroom alive so it had to be trashed. We upgraded the toilet to a little bit higher one (I am 62) and the two flush options for water saving.

THE NICHE IS BUILT

The old tile floor had to be removed. I helped but I wasn’t that great with the demo. The sub floor was in good shape so we kept that. We put hardy board around the tub, then taped the seams. We used Redgard to increase the waterproof factor.

THE REDGARD IS UP

Some of the drywall was a hot mess so that got replaced as well. The new lights required some wiring and new electrical and a fair amount of plumbing was necessary for the lights and the handheld shower fixture.

DETAILS INSIDE THE GUEST BATH REVEAL

I like to keep my space fairly simple. We put up a hook for a towel next to the tub, and one hook behind the door for another towel. No more towel racks for me. I like to grab a towel right outside the shower.

MY LONE TOWEL HOOK

With it being a guest bath, I keep a large jar with mini sizes of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, powder, soap, pain meds and more so my guests don’t have to ask. In the bottom drawer of the vanity is additional toilet paper, Epsom salts and more hand towels.

SUPPLIES FOR OUR GUESTS

We added one hook for a hand towel but during Covid I typically have paper hand towels out for guests.

ONE ROUND HOOK FOR A HAND TOWEL

I doubt I’ll add anything else other than the multi tone drawer pulls for the vanity. Oh and of course a bar to help get in and out of the deep tub. New navy towels are stacked in a drawer and these gold and white hand towels go perfectly. One navy candle and a light blue hand soap and we are done!

Do you have any upcoming bathroom remodels? What do you lean toward? I really do like the clean lines of white tile. This is the second floor I have in a bathroom that is a little busy. I’ve bought both in the clearance area of Floor Decor and More. The price is awesome and with my built in handyman our cost to redo a bathroom can’t be beat.

I hope your start of the New Year has been a good one. I’m scheduled for cataract surgery in the morning so tonight I’m keeping busy!

Thanks Cindy! I thought I replied to your earlier comments about my blog. Not sure what happened. We laugh because we say we want to just go sit in the new bathroom because everything is so new and clean.

Very nice! We just downsized and had our new “forever home” built so it will be many years before I need to do any renovations, but they are always nice to look at – #trafficjamparty

This turned out beautifully. I love the soaker tub. I’m the only one in our family that likes to take baths and they just don’t understand.
